Explore Miami Ample Selection of Parks and Gardens

Although better known for its pristine tropical beaches, Miami is a verdant paradise brimming with all sorts of unique and interesting green spaces to explore. Many of these locales are unique and have features found nowhere else in the world. If you are the outdoorsy type, you should definitely consider some of these options.

Everglades National Park

Spanning an incredible 1.5-million-acre, this federal park makes up most of west Miami-Dade County. It was created to protect the remaining 20 percent of the original everglades, a fragile but vital network of wetlands that is the only one of its kind anywhere in the world. It provides valuable habitat for native wildlife (it also plays a critical role in the supply of fresh water to Miami and nearby urban area). The park has ample activities to choose from, such as hiking, biking, fishing, boating, and camping.

Biscayne National Park

Another famous park, Biscayne is known for its unspoiled natural beaches and vibrant coral reefs, especially in the southern end. It is especially popular for diving and snorkeling, offer tremendous beauty and variety. The Dante Fascell Visitor Center offers kayak, canoe, and boat rentals, which offer another fun way to explore this one-of-a-kind marine environment. Although technically a separate area, the nearby Biscayne Nature Center, which is nestled in the south end of lush Crandon Park, offers many fun and educational exhibits, tours, workshops, and events.

Fairchild Tropical Botanic Gardens

Named after Dr. David Fairchild, the pioneering botanist who mangos, dates, and nectarines to the U.S., this gorgeous garden is a treasure trove of plants and ecosystems from all over the world. Stroll through a vast network of unique gardens, lakes, rivers, and other tranquil natural environments, as well as numerous displays and exhibits around the park. The International, Mango, and Orchid Festivals are each major local events that draw thousands annually and should not be missed.

Miami Beach Botanical Garden

This hidden gem in the heart of highly urban Miami Beach displays native plant species and a number of elegant water features. It’s a tranquil enclave in an otherwise bustling city, with its beautiful ambiance and central location making it the host of many fun events, seminars, yoga exercises, and more.
